MicroEnterprise Works (MEW)

What is your Business Vision? or,

MEW One-On-One Consulting

This is a question you will be asked after being referred to MicroEnterprise Works by your counselor. MEW will set up an initial meeting with you where we will discuss your background, your professional experience, your education, and the vision you have for your business. The purpose of this review is to identify the assumptions you have made about your business idea. We may even challenge you!

Our consulting philosophy is this: You are the business owner and we are here to help you. Our goal is for you to do as much as possible in researching and preparing your business plan. You need "to own" your plan as the first step in becoming a business owner. We have extensive experience writing business plans and preparing financial information and we will guide and support you all the way, but the more you do, the more prepared you will be.

At the end of the first meeting, you and the MEW team prepare a "TO DO" list for you to complete. The items on this list will help to answer questions that have surfaced during our meeting, and to prepare you for the next step. Your counselor and MEW want to learn whether you are motivated to initiate and complete your "TO DO" list, as well as how comprehensively and well-done your work is.

The next step is for you to contact MEW when your "TO DO" list is completed. We often have a "TO DO" list of our own to complete, so when we are finished we will contact you and check on your progress. When both lists are done, another meeting is scheduled. Each meeting brings more challenges as you face issues that are similar to those you would face as a business owner. The "TO DO" list becomes your business plan as you research and find answers to hard questions about your competition, pricing, and financial requirements.

When you are ready, MEW team will then give you a business plan outline to follow. The completion of a business plan can take anywhere between 3 weeks and 3 months and again, there will be challenges as you focus on the strategic plan of your business. Some of the sections of a Business Plan are as follows:

  • The Mission Statement
  • A Business Description
  • About the Owner
  • Disability Related Issues
  • Products and Services
  • Business Operations
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Financial Summary
When a Business Plan is finally completed, MEW sometimes participates in helping you present your plan to either a referring agency, a commercial bank, or other lending program.

Your Business is Launched, THEN WHAT?????

After your business is launched, MEW will not leave you high and dry. As business owners we have been through the beginning stages of business ownership, and know how difficult it can be. At this stage MEW can offer, marketing materials development, bookkeeping system set up, and mentoring. This is a critical period for your business and as always, we want to help you succeed.

A successful business is continuous hard work and preparation, but yields great rewards. When you look back over the time you invested, you will be proud that all of your hard work paid off and you are an entrepreneur!
